My husband and I made it home Wednesday evening and went straight to our church's worship service held out in the pavilion (still no power). We didn't actually set foot into our house until after dark - really, really dark with no power. Suprisingly, our fridge didn't smell - yet - and the weather was unseasonably pleasant.
We slept well. Next morning - still no power and no smell from fridge. My husband went to work while I unpacked, lugged in a week's worth of mail, etc. etc. After being almost a week without power, we wanted to take the fridge outside to smell up the neighborhood instead of the house. :)
Things didn't happen quite as planned:
1) mom comes to stay because she still doesn't have power and because her blood pressure is taking extreme highs and lows
2)discovery of ceiling water damage, including damage to a dear, old church pew in the house
3) everything that comes along with a hurricane-devastated area (limited fuel supply, no power, low water pressure or NO water, curfews, etc.)
Our power came back on Thursday night around 11:30pm - hallelujah!! My husband and I had this great idea to turn on a light switch so we would know when the power was back. You know how it feels to have the bright lights of Yankee stadium flashed on in your face while fast asleep?! It took a minute to register what had happened..... and then...... YIPEEeeeeee! We are ON!
Long story, short - we didn't get to take the fridge outside until TODAY - yes, Sunday. Stinch had commenced. Needless to say, the fridge is still outside.
